ARCHIVAL FOOTAGE, NOT A FRESH REMARK: Defense Secretary Hegseth, at a Pentagon podium, "We're not counting on Europe, but they need the Strait of Hormuz much more than we do... might want to start doing less talking and having less fancy conferences in Europe and getting a boat. This is much more their fight than ours." The quote is real but dates to an April 24, 2026 press briefing (Fulton Sun, Spokesman), where he accused Europe and Asia of "freeriding" on Hormuz security. Glenn Diesen posted it September 19 captioned "After successfully outsourcing the Ukraine proxy war to Europe, Hegseth...", framing it as commentary on current events; dated here to the original briefing.
