The Red Sea coast of Yemen is passing, town by town, toward Ansarallah, and the analysts we track spent the day working out what follows from that. Their answers ran in three directions: toward an American navy that has left the Gulf and cannot answer from where it now sits, toward an economic bill arriving in oil, bonds and mortgage rates weeks before a midterm election, and toward a Ukrainian front where the southern anchor is giving way as winter approaches.
The Coast Closes
Larry Johnson expects the Houthis to take Taiz within a day.¹ Nima Alkhorshid, in a solo monologue on Dialogue Works, measures the same event in hours.² Lt. Col. Anthony Aguilar looks past Taiz to the next objective. Mocha, he argues, is the Houthis' next move, and Mocha would give them the whole Yemeni Red Sea coastline and "absolute, undisputed control" of the Bab el-Mandeb strait.³ Nate of Canadian Prepper supplies the demonstration of what that control is worth: a Houthi strike destroyed, "with pinpoint precision", a section of the pipeline feeding the Yanbu terminal on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast.⁴ Johnson draws the strategic conclusion. With both chokepoints in play, "Iran is now in a position to really shut down all the flow of oil to the west."⁵
What is missing from this picture is the United States Navy. Aguilar states it flatly: "The United States has no naval capability operating in the Persian Gulf nor in the Strait of Hormuz."⁶ The Fifth Fleet, in his account, was forced to move its headquarters from Bahrain to Diego Garcia, 2,200 miles away, leaving no local naval logistics in the Gulf. The air defense picture is no better. One or two more Iranian strikes on the scale of the one that hit an F-15 and an A-10 at American bases in Jordan, he warns, could deplete Patriot interceptor stocks to the point where there are none left.⁷

“Donald Trump has once again written checks that the Navy can't cash.”
Andrei Martyanov disputes the official account of how many Iranian missiles are getting through. The stated figure of 2 percent, he argues, is off by an order of magnitude; his own estimate runs as high as 30 to 35 percent against what the Patriot PAC-3 can intercept.⁸ Iran, in his phrase, is "the cherry on the top" that exposed the American military as a paper tiger.⁹ Col. Douglas Macgregor, speaking with Judge Andrew Napolitano, reaches the same verdict without the metaphor: "We've been defeated strategically by the Iranian state and nation."¹⁰ Richard Wolff offers the general law behind the particular case: "Bombs never win a war."¹¹ And Alkhorshid extends the damage to Israel, whose radar and air-defense warning network he says Iranian strikes have wrecked. "Israel is naked."¹²
The Bill Before the Vote
The war's costs are now arriving in markets the White House cannot bomb. Alexander Mercouris, on his own program, says the global oil shortage looks set to get worse, and he cites one bank forecasting $150 a barrel.¹³ Nate goes further: if there is no reprieve in hostilities before the election, oil could "go to the moon" and reach $300.¹⁴ Sean Foo, speaking with Glenn Diesen, is highly doubtful that prices fall back to $30 or $40 even after the Iran crisis ends.¹⁵ Foo's larger worry is the bond market. American allies including Japan, Norway and the Gulf states are increasingly selling Treasuries, he argues, as the weaponization of debt erodes trust, and he sees only two exits: "The US will not pay back this in full. It will either default on its debt or just print the money and devalue the real value of it."¹⁶
Johnson ties the price of gasoline to the calendar. If the administration does not turn the oil, gas and mortgage-rate situation around in the next couple of weeks, he says, Trump will not survive the midterms.¹⁷ The president's own answer is to promise that relief arrives the moment the votes are counted.
The analysts do not expect the war to cooperate with that timetable. Mercouris, appearing with Daniel Davis, sees no reason to expect the Iran war to end in the next few weeks or months, before or after the American elections, absent effective diplomacy and a genuine settlement, of which he sees no sign.¹⁸ "The war not only is not being won contrary to what President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu are saying," he says. "All the evidence suggests it is expanding and it is expanding against our interests."¹⁹ Aguilar predicts a resolution that is declaratory rather than real: Trump will proclaim the war over on November 4th or soon after the midterms, a facade of success, while the conditions Iran set go unmet.²⁰
On how long the fighting actually runs, the same conclusion arrives from three different premises. Michael Hudson expects the war to end after the election with the United States completely exhausted, at best a technical knockout.²¹ Alkhorshid puts the finish line further out, saying the war would last until the last moment of the Trump administration.²² Nate reasons from the other side of the exchange: the Iranians will not capitulate before the two months are up and the election starts.²³
Beneath the price of oil sits a longer argument about what the dollar rests on. Martyanov puts it bluntly: "The whole petro dollar was built around this mythology, this fairy tale of the American military power which theoretically could do something. Evidently it cannot."²⁴ Hudson locates the shift in the real economy: "China has replaced the United States as the industrial supplier."²⁵ Alkhorshid names the same beneficiary: "the winner without fighting, without firing a single bullet is China."²⁶
The Southern Anchor
Mercouris expects the Russian Defence Ministry to announce the capture of Orekhov within the next couple of days, complete with pictures of soldiers raising flags.²⁷ The fall of Orekhov, in his reading, collapses Ukraine's southern anchor and opens the roads toward Zaporozhye city. To the north, Dimitri Polyanskiy, Russia's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, told a Diesen panel that Russia is about to take the last stronghold in Donbas and will do so imminently.²⁸ Diesen himself is more specific: Slaviansk and Kramatorsk are semi-encircled, not yet surrounded but getting there, and will probably fall over the next week or two.²⁹ Polyanskiy's summary of Moscow's position needed no diplomatic softening: "We will get what we want this way or another."³⁰
Behind the front is a supply problem no one on the Western side has solved. Hudson, speaking of Ukraine: "It doesn't have any arms. It doesn't have any missiles. It shot them all."³¹ Mercouris agrees on the consequence. "It's definitely not going the Ukraine's way," he told Davis. "And of course the air now belongs to the Russians."³² Given that air situation, he expects a pretty bad winter for Ukraine, probably worse than the last one.³³ Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, also speaking with Davis, describes the endpoint: "Ukraine is going to be a rump state with nothing. Nothing. No port, no ability to get its agricultural products out."³⁴
Mercouris offers the one policy he thinks would end it. "The right thing for Trump to do was to stop providing Ukraine with further intelligence and military assistance. That would end the war."³⁵ He does not expect the alternative, pressure on Moscow, to work. Referring to the inducements offered by Witkoff and Kushner and the threats from the CIA director, he says, "The Russians were no more interested in these economic bribes than they were in Radcliffe's threats."³⁶
