Douglas Macgregor

Douglas Macgregor is an American retired US Army colonel, born in Philadelphia in 1947, who served from 1976 to 2004 and directed the Battle of 73 Easting during the 1991 Gulf War. He holds a PhD from the University of Virginia and wrote Breaking the Phalanx (1997) and Transformation Under Fire (2003) on restructuring American land forces, followed by Warrior’s Rage (2009) and Margin of Victory (2016). Trump announced an intent to nominate him as ambassador to Germany in July 2020; the nomination stalled in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and was returned to the president in January 2021. He served as senior adviser to the acting Secretary of Defense from November 2020 to January 2021, and is now chief executive of the group Our Country Our Choice.
