Ian Proud
Ian Proud is a British former diplomat who served in the Diplomatic Service for 24 years, from 1999 to 2023. From July 2014 to February 2019 he was Head of Chancery and Economic Counsellor at the British Embassy in Moscow, advising UK ministers on economic sanctions against Russia. Earlier postings included Head of the Political Section in Bangkok and Head of Strategic Communications in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He is the author of the memoir "A Misfit in Moscow: How British diplomacy in Russia failed, 2014-2019" (2023), writes the Substack newsletter The Peacemonger and runs a YouTube channel of the same name, and is a contributing writer for Responsible Statecraft. He lives in Hampshire, England.
